Delhi, Read. On June 3, a massive fire broke out in a restaurant in the Malviya Nagar area of the country’s capital Delhi. The fire was so huge that it killed dozens of people within a few minutes. At present 21 people have died in this terrible accident, while 20 to 25 people are injured, out of which the condition of many is said to be critical. In such a situation, the death toll may increase.
The scene of the building where this accident took place was even more horrifying. There was a restaurant on the ground floor, where people came to eat, while there were hotel rooms on the upper floors. It is being told that there was only one door for entry and exit in the entire hotel. As soon as the fire broke out, that road was also surrounded by smoke and flames. People were trapped and kept screaming, crying for help…
Let us tell you that this is not the first accident… the country’s capital Delhi has seen this terrible period of fire many times before. Even before this accident, the capital has been shaken by many fire incidents. In which dozens of innocent lives were burnt to ashes. Still the system did not improve. NOC, safety norms, fire exits all remained limited to papers only. Today again the same questions are being raised. How many times will people die? How many times will governments give assurances?
Uphaar Cinema Fire Incident (1997)

Consequences of the accident – 59 deaths, 103 injured

About 29 years ago, 59 people lost their lives in the Uphaar Cinema fire. During the show of the film Border at Uphaar Cinema, a spark arose in the electric transformer installed on the ground floor, due to which the vehicles parked in the parking lot caught fire. This produced a large amount of carbon monoxide gas. After this, people sitting in the balcony section of the cinema hall were not able to come out as the management had closed or blocked the emergency gates to accommodate additional seats.
Lal Kuan chemical warehouse fire (1999)

Consequences of the accident – 57 deaths, 23 injured

A fire broke out in a chemical warehouse located in Lal Kuan. Within no time the fire took a huge form and the surrounding buildings also got affected by it. The accident resulted in 57 deaths and about 23 people were injured. It is said that after the accident, due to the chemical, the road there appeared blue for about a week. However, later due to security reasons, the administration shifted the chemical market from Old Delhi to Holambi Kalan. Despite this, even today there is a danger of fire in this area due to the wire mesh and narrow streets.
Bawana Industrial Area fire (2018)

Consequences of the accident – 17 deaths, 2 injured

A sudden fire broke out in a firecracker packaging unit located in Bawana Industrial Area. There was only one way into the building where the accident occurred. In such a situation, when a fire broke out near the stairs, there was no way out for the workers working on the upper floors. Due to this the workers got badly trapped. 17 laborers had died in the accident. While two laborers were injured.
Arpit Palace Hotel fire (2019)

Consequences of the accident – 17 deaths

There was a short circuit in the AC duct at Arpit Palace Hotel located in Karol Bagh. The fire that broke out due to this spread to the illegal restaurant built in the corridors and on the roof. Smoke filled the inside of the hotel because of the wooden panels. Apart from this, due to the emergency gates being locked, people got stuck inside. 17 people died in this accident also.
Anaj Mandi factory fire (2019)
date – December 8, 2019
Place – Rani Jhansi Road, Central Delhi
Consequences of the accident – 43 deaths, more than 56 injured

In a 4-5 storey building located at Anaj Mandi Factory, an illegal factory for making school bags, luggage, handbags and plastic items was running on the lower and upper floors. On 8 December 2019, the fire broke out due to a short circuit between 4:45 and 5:00 am. The factory was filled with plastic, cardboard, paper and flammable raw materials, due to which the fire quickly spread throughout the building. During this time, about 100-150 workers were sleeping in the building. There were iron grills on the windows and raw materials were stored on the stairs. There was only one way to enter and exit the building. 43 laborers died of suffocation in this accident. While more than 56 people were injured.
Gokulpuri slum fire incident (2022)

Place – Gokulpuri, North-East Delhi
Consequences of the accident – 7 deaths, more than 60 slums destroyed

There was a fire in the garbage heap in Gokulpuri settlement on March 12, 2022, between 12:30 am and 1:05 am. Gradually the fire engulfed the slums and within no time more than 60 slums were burnt to ashes. Due to narrow streets, inflammable materials and only one road in the slums, the fire spread rapidly. 7 people died in this accident. In which there were 3 children and 1 pregnant woman.
Mundka Commercial Building fire (2022)

Place – West Delhi near Mundka Metro Station
Consequences of the accident – 27 deaths, 40 injured

The fire broke out in a four-storey commercial building near Mundka metro station. CCTV cameras and electronic routers were made in the Sis building. According to the information, the fire broke out near the electrical switch on the first floor. The fire spread rapidly due to cardboard and plastic. The only way in and out of the building was the door. Dozens of women working there were trapped inside during the accident. There were 27 deaths in this accident, while 40 were injured.
Alipore Paint Factory fire (2024)

Place – Alipore, North Delhi
Consequences of the accident – 11 deaths, 4 injured

An illegal chemical and paint mixing factory located in Alipore had exploded due to spark from welding. After the incident, the flammable chemical spread into the drains, due to which the fire spread to nearby houses and shops. Due to this, dozens of people working in their homes and shops got trapped inside. 11 people died in this accident. While 4 were injured.
Palam fire (2026)
date – 18 March 2026
Place – Palam, South-West Delhi
Consequences of the accident – 9 deaths, 3 injured

A massive fire broke out in a four-storey building located in Palam area at around 6:30 am. Nine people from the family of businessman Rajinder Kashyap lost their lives in the accident, which included three children. There were showrooms of cosmetics and clothes on the basement, ground and first floor of the building where the accident took place, while the family lived on the upper floors. The fire was caused by a short circuit and spread rapidly to the upper floors due to highly flammable materials such as cosmetics. To escape the fire, one son threw his two-year-old daughter down towards the rescue workers and then jumped himself, while another son saved his life by jumping onto a nearby building.
Vivek Vihar residential building fire (2026)

outcome of the accident – 9 deaths, two injured

A massive fire broke out due to a blast in the air conditioner (AC) compressor on the second floor of a four-storey building located in Vivek Vihar Colony. Due to fire the electronic doors got automatically locked. Not only this, the roads up and down were also blocked. Due to which the people of the same family sleeping inside were burnt alive to death.
