A Delhi court on Saturday convicted former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) councilor Tahir Hussain of inciting riots in a case related to the 2020 Delhi riots. Arson has taken place in Dayalpur area of North-East Delhi. Karkardooma Court has acquitted Tahir Hussain of other charges.
Tahir Hussain has also been proved guilty in the second case of Delhi riots. Earlier, he was convicted in the murder of Intelligence Bureau (IB) employee Ankit Sharma during the riots. He has been sentenced to life imprisonment in that case.
This case is related to FIR number 120 registered in Dayalpur police station. This case has been registered in the year 2020. The FIR was then registered under sections 147, 148 and 149 (rioting), 427 (damage to property), 436 (arson) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code.

What is there in the case in which the punishment was given?
This case was registered on the complaint of Irshad Ali. He had told that on February 24, 2020, the shop where he worked was looted. The allegation was that the accused broke the shutter of the shop and set it on fire. According to the complainant, there was a loss of around Rs 17 to 18 lakh due to looting of goods from the shop. The damage caused to the building was estimated to be around Rs 10 lakh.

What were the allegations against Tahir Hussain?
Second complainant Mohammad Zahid said that the rioters were raising slogans in the name of Tahir Hussain and saying that they were with him. During investigation, two constables identified Tahir Hussain. Tahir Hussain held a public position and the constables knew him. Tahir Hussain was formally arrested in Mandoli jail on 21 April 2020. He was already in judicial custody in another riot case.
