Commuters advised to plan journeys in advance
The traffic police has urged commuters traveling through New Delhi and Central Delhi to plan their journeys in advance, particularly those heading to railway stations, inter-state bus terminals (ISBTs) and the airport.
“Please keep extra travel time in hand if heading towards railway stations, ISBTs, or the airport via New Delhi and Central Delhi,” the advisory stated.
Commuters have also been asked to avoid non-essential travel in the affected areas. The police said traffic management arrangements would be adjusted according to the situation on the ground.
“Traffic management measures are dynamic and will be relaxed or regulated based on real-time ground assessment,” the advisory added.
Opposition parties plan march to Supreme Court
The traffic advisory comes as Opposition leaders and MPs prepare to march towards the Supreme Court on Monday morning to protest alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process and demand the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
Leaders from several INDIA bloc parties are expected to take part in the march and raise concerns over the electoral roll revision exercise.
On Sunday, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi called on young people, Opposition parties and civil society groups to join the march scheduled for October 12. Urging participants to overcome fear, he used the slogan “Daro mat”.
The call came a day after protests in Delhi resulted in the detention of demonstrators and a heavy police deployment.
Meanwhile, Chief Justice of India Surya Kant rejected the INDIA bloc leaders’ request for a meeting to submit a representation on the alleged electoral irregularities. He said they should approach the court by filing a petition, as the matter was already sub judice.
