Delhi will get financial assistance of Rs 7,000 crore from the Centre, development works will gain momentum

The development work of the country’s capital Delhi may soon get a big economic boost. Delhi government is expected to get funds of around Rs 7,000 crore from the central government in the current financial year. This financial assistance will be used to strengthen infrastructure, improve public amenities and accelerate environment-related projects in the capital. The government believes that with this fund, many important schemes in areas like roads, drainage, sanitation, transport and green development can be carried forward rapidly.

Apart from this, projects related to Yamuna cleaning, pollution control and urban development are also expected to benefit from this assistance. Constant coordination is being made between the Delhi Government and the Center regarding various development schemes, so that the projects can be implemented in a time bound manner. A major part of the potential Rs 7,000 crore fund to be received from the central government is set to be spent on road projects in the capital Delhi. This amount is expected to give impetus to the ongoing infrastructure development works in the city.

According to government sources, many road and infrastructure projects were affected for a long time due to lack of funds. Financial assistance from the Center will help in completing these projects on time. Under this, priority can be given to works related to road construction, repair, widening, traffic management and connectivity improvement. The government believes that this will improve the traffic system in the capital and people will get relief in commuting.

Where will the funds be spent?

The potential funds will be used exclusively on roads, infrastructure development and Yamuna cleaning projects. In this regard, a proposal of about Rs 1,000 crore for various projects of the Public Works Department (PWD) and Delhi Jal Board has been sent to the Central Government for approval. According to government data, the capital Delhi is expected to get huge financial assistance under various heads. There is a possibility of getting about Rs 591 crore from the Central Road Fund. At the same time, under the National Clean Ganga Mission, about Rs 1,500 crore can be given for Yamuna and water purification projects. Apart from this, assistance of about Rs 100 crore is expected from the Center to strengthen the disaster management system in the capital. At the same time, Delhi is estimated to get a separate amount of Rs 3,931.16 crore for the operation of various schemes of the Central Government.

‘Expected to cross Rs 7,000 crore’

According to a senior official, the total financial assistance Delhi will receive from the central government in the financial year 2026-27 is likely to reach more than Rs 7,000 crore. This amount is believed to be about 34 percent more than the revised estimates. According to officials, in the last financial year 2025-26, financial assistance could not be received from the Center at the expected level. According to the revised figures, the actual assistance was about 56 percent less than what was estimated in the budget. There was a provision of getting about Rs 6,000 crore from the Central Government, especially for big development works, but according to the new data, till now no amount has been released under this head.

According to Delhi government data, the capital Delhi was expected to get about Rs 1,000 crore from the Central Road Fund in the financial year 2025-26. Later this estimate was revised to Rs 212.43 crore, but as per the available data, no amount has been received under this head till now. Similarly, Delhi was expected to get a total of Rs 4,127.82 crore in 2025-26 for various schemes of the Central Government. Later, under the revised estimate, it was reduced to Rs 2,207.84 crore. However, ultimately the Delhi government could receive only about Rs 1,202 crore. This amount was also about 54.47 percent less than the revised estimate. Officials believe that the pace of many development and infrastructure projects was affected due to non-availability of required funds.
