From 2008 till now…where have the IPL finals been played? see list

Delhi: After more than 40 matches have been played in IPL season 2026, BCCI has announced the venues for the playoffs. If you spent so many days, you must have thought something sensational. The result is that according to BCCI, due to logistical reasons, the playoff matches will be played at three different venues this time.

Qualifier 1: Will be played between the top two teams of the league round in Dharamshala. The team that wins this will directly play the final. Eliminator and Qualifier 2: Will be played at Mullanpur, New Chandigarh.
Final: Will be held in Ahmedabad.

After this announcement, the most talked about thing is to play the final in Ahmedabad. It would not be wrong to say this and if we judge from what is coming on social media, then there are very few people who believe that BCCI’s decision of giving the final to Ahmedabad is right. According to tradition and protocol, since Royal Challengers Bangalore are the champions of the previous season, they should have got the final.

Now that the ban on not playing IPL matches at M Chinnaswamy Stadium has been lifted and nothing wrong has happened in the matches played there this season, then why they did not get to host the final is a puzzle to which there is no answer. According to the BCCI, initially Bengaluru was chosen to host the final, but due to lack of agreement to meet certain requirements that required assistance from the State Cricket Association and other authorities, the venue was shifted. * In this way, the fourth IPL final will be played in Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad in 2026 and the record of hosting the maximum number of IPL finals of MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chepauk (3) will be broken. 4 out of the last 5 finals being held at the same venue does not fit into any policy of BCCI: List of IPL finals at one venue

4 – Ahmedabad (2022, 2023, 2025, 2026)
3 – Chepauk (2011, 2012, 2024)
2 – Garden of Eden (2013, 2015)
2 – Bengaluru (2014, 2016)

What are the facts due to which BCCI’s decision to give the IPL final to Ahmedabad is not considered right:

* If BCCI had accepted that Bengaluru would not be given a big match like the IPL final, then Eden Gardens should have got this final. Kolkata Knight Riders were the champions in 2024 and hence the 2025 final should have gone to Eden Gardens but due to some reason the final was shifted to Ahmedabad.

* If the policy of giving the IPL final to the last season’s champion had to be broken, then one of the big cricket centers of India (where no IPL final has been played for years) should have got this final. Mumbai last held the IPL final 8 years ago while Kolkata held it 10 years ago.
