Democracy is incomplete without empowering committees: Satish Mahana
State Bureau, Lucknow/Jaipur, Read: Uttar Pradesh Assembly Speaker Satish Mahana said that the committee system plays a decisive role in making democracy effective and accountable. He stressed that the democratic system remains incomplete without empowering the committees.
In the meeting of the Committee of Presiding Officers held at the Constitution Club in Jaipur on Tuesday, Mahana said that the Assembly Committees act as mini houses, where detailed and in-depth discussion on the subjects is possible. This makes decisions more practical and public interest.
He said that committees play an important role in implementing the promises made by the government and fixing the accountability of officials. If their recommendations are implemented in a timely and serious manner, comprehensive improvements in the governance system are possible.
Mahana suggested that important bills should be compulsorily sent to committees, so that they can be minutely reviewed. He also stressed on involvement of experts, use of modern technology, regular training and increased transparency to make the committee system more effective.
This high-level meeting was presided over by Narendra Singh Tomar, while Vasudev Devnani welcomed the guests. There was a detailed discussion in the meeting on increasing the effectiveness of the committee system and making parliamentary processes more transparent.
