Desk. A sudden severe flood from Tibet has caused huge devastation in Timure Bazar area of Rasuwa district of Nepal. Flood in Lende Khola (Bhotekoshi) has caused massive damage at Rasuwa border crossing. According to officials, two nearby markets including Timure have been completely destroyed by the floods. 16 people have died in the devastating floods. There is a possibility of 1000 people being swept away in this devastation. However, official confirmation is yet to come.
Prime Minister Balendra Shah has called an emergency meeting of the National Disaster Management amid the huge devastation caused by the sudden floods in Nepal. His advisor Asim Shah said that Prime Minister Shah is in direct contact with the chief district magistrates of the affected areas and is monitoring every moment.
According to Dhruv Prasad Adhikari, assistant chief district officer of Rasuwa, the flood has also caused huge damage to the market and custom office area. He said that a large number of vehicles and other goods were present in Rasuwa Bhansar area, which were washed away in the flood. A new bridge recently built at the place damaged in last year's flood has also been washed away in this flood.
According to District Police Office Rasuwa, Timure Bazar settlement was affected by the sudden flood at around 9 am on Wednesday. Chief District Officer of Rasuva, Narendra Pariyar said that due to the sudden flood, there have been reports of hydroelectric projects in the lower coastal areas being washed away and flood water entering the settlements.
Three offices of Nepal Police have also been heavily damaged due to floods from Tibet. According to the Police Head Office, Area Sentinel Office Timure, Sentinel Post Syafrubesi and Sentinel Post Rasuwagadhi in Rasuwa District have been affected. Meanwhile, floods have also reached Nuwakot. Information Officer of District Administration Office Nuwakot, Rupesh Prasad Nepal has confirmed this.
In view of the flood and possible risk in Rasuwa, the traffic police has stopped the vehicles going from Kathmandu to Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Chitwan and Dhading in Kathmandu itself. According to SP Nareshraj Suvedi of Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office, keeping in mind the flood situation, the movement of vehicles going towards these districts has been stopped.
Two helicopters of Nepali Army have left for Rasuwa for relief and rescue operations in the flood affected area. Nepali Army spokesperson and Brigadier General Rajaram Basnet said that both the helicopters have been sent towards the flood affected area. After the severe flood in Bhotekoshi river, the Prime Minister's Office has also directed all the helicopter companies to remain in readiness.
It has been said in the information that if there is a need for search and rescue at any place or if any kind of assistance is felt, then the toll-free number 1234 should be immediately contacted. The Home Minister has also urged people not to travel on the Prithvi Highway, Galchi-Nuwakot-Rasuwa-Syafrubesi road and Muglin-Narayangarh road and to completely stop traffic on these routes.
