DGMA advisory to avoid deployment of Indian sailors in the Strait of Hormuz Gujarati
Mumbai, 16 July 2026: Keeping in mind the ever-increasing geo-political tensions and security threats in West Asia (Middle East), the Directorate General of Marine Administration (DGMA) of the Government of India has issued an important advisory. DGMA has given strict instructions to all ship owners, ship managers and recruitment agencies to refrain from deploying Indian sailors on ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz until further orders.
Ship captains ordered to be on high alert
According to the instructions issued by DGMA, captains of ships operating in the Persian Gulf, Strait of Hormuz and surrounding sea areas will have to maintain a high level of vigilance for safety. All navigational warnings and safety updates issued by the competent authorities will have to be continuously monitored. All applicable security measures in accordance with the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code are to be implemented with immediate effect on board ships to ensure the safety of seafarers and ships.
