Construction of hill roads will be easy in Uttarakhand, Dhami cabinet approved the system of one-time approval.

The state government led by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has taken important steps to speed up road and bridge construction works in the hilly areas of Uttarakhand. Dhami Cabinet has approved the proposal to simplify the approval process related to road construction under the Public Works Department. Under the new system, after cutting of mountains, there will be no need to take approval at different stages for important works like protection walls, culverts and drains. These works can be approved in one phase.

Emphasis on reducing delays in construction works

Till now, during road construction in hilly areas, permission had to be taken at different stages for mountain cutting and subsequent protective works. In the first phase, approval was given to cut the mountain, while in the second phase, separate approval had to be obtained for the construction of protection walls, culverts, drainage drains and other necessary structures.

This process took additional time, due to which there was a possibility of delay in the implementation of projects. The new system is expected to help in simplifying departmental processes and carrying forward construction works in a more systematic manner.

Hilly areas will get relief

In a Himalayan state like Uttarakhand, roads play an important role in connecting rural areas with markets, hospitals, educational institutions and other essential services. Simplifying the process of road construction can speed up efforts to improve connectivity in remote mountainous areas.

Timely completion of protective construction works after mountain cutting can also help in maintaining the stability of the road and reducing possible damage during rains.

Along with development, security is also important

The objective of this decision of the Dhami government is to reduce the time taken in construction approvals and to facilitate the implementation of infrastructure projects. However, considering the sensitive geographical conditions of the hilly areas, it will be very important to follow safety standards related to quality of construction, stability of slopes and drainage.

This decision of the state government is an important administrative change towards simplifying the process of road and bridge construction. This is likely to promote infrastructure development and better connectivity facilities in the hilly areas.
