Dharmendra Pradhan Resigns: Today, for the first time in the last 12 years of the Modi government, a Union Minister has resigned from his post. Dharmendra Pradhan had to resign from the post of Union Education Minister after the movement of the Cockroach Janata Party which has been going on for the past month. Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation is being seen as a major political development for the government.

Interestingly, lakhs of students and youth under the leadership of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) have been protesting at Jantar Mantar in Delhi for the past month demanding his resignation. During the last one month many big events also happened. Union Minister resigns for the first time in 12 years

Since Narendra Modi first became Prime Minister in 2014, there have been many major political controversies, mass protests and nationwide protests. But no union minister resigned under the pressure of agitations. But Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation is the first ministerial resignation in the 12-year tenure of the Modi government.

A month long agitation on Jantar Mantar

Since the last month, pro-Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) students have been protesting at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar demanding Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation. Issues such as the collapsed education system in the country, alleged paper leakage, examination reforms and accountability were mainly raised during the agitation. But on Monday (July 20), tension arose several times between the police and the protesters during the protest on Parliament Road.

Even during the CAA agitation, the government backed down

Earlier, there were prolonged protests across the country against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). Protests continued for months in several states, including Shaheen Bagh in Delhi, but the central government did not withdraw the law, nor did any central minister resign.

No resignation even during farmers’ agitation

Similarly, the farmers’ agitation against the Three Agrarian Acts was one of the longest-running agitations in the country. The farmers were staying at the Delhi border for almost a year. Eventually, the central government decided to withdraw all three agriculture laws, but still not a single central minister resigned.

Now the next preparation for government exam reforms

The government is likely to introduce the Public Examinations (Prevention of Malpractices) Amendment Bill, 2026 in Parliament on Monday. The purpose of the bill is believed to be to impose stricter provisions on paper-cheating and other irregularities in public examinations.

Sources to fast track court for paperless cases

Meanwhile, a special fast-track court set up to hear cases related to question paper-splitting and other malpractices in public examinations began functioning on Saturday. Special Judge Anu Grover Baliga took charge of the court at Rouse Avenue Court Complex. According to sources, the case of the 13 accused arrested in the NEET UG 2026 paper leak case is also likely to be heard in this court.
