‘We spoke in respect’, Dhirendra Shastri said on the controversy over Shivaji Maharaj’s statement; expressed suspicion of conspiracy
Dhirendra Shastri Statement On Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj: Bageshwar Dham’s spiritual guru Dhirendra Shastri (Bageshwar Baba), while speaking to reporters in Nagpur on Sunday, clarified the controversy over his recent comments on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. He said that controversy and media attention have become part of his fate.
Dhirendra Shastri said that whenever we come to Nagpur, something or the other happens. Last time we did not say anything, yet a controversy arose. This time we talked positively about respect and how saint-like and dedicated Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was but he was misrepresented.
Dhirendra Shastri expressed fear of conspiracy
Dhirendra Shastri further said that some people have been continuously opposing Sanatan and saints. Their aim is to humiliate the saints and Mahant. Dhirendra Shastri said that it is also possible that there is a conspiracy behind this because whoever listens to the entire statement and understands the true meaning, will not consider it wrong. We did not say anything inappropriate. We spoke with the aim of expressing respect. Despite this, we expressed regret and also apologized.
‘The fine line between faith and superstition’
Peethadhishwar of Bageshwar Dham also spoke in detail on the difference between faith and superstition. Dhirendra Shastri said that there is a very fine line between faith and superstition. Belief based on understanding is faith, whereas belief without understanding is superstition. We never ask that people should worship us. In every meeting and discourse we clearly say that we are not to connect people with ourselves but to connect them with Lord Balaji Hanuman.
Dhirendra Shastri presented his side
Clarifying the context of the statement given on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Dhirendra Shastri said that the context was completely different. We were talking about the devotion of a disciple to his guru. Just like in the Mahabharata, Arjuna told Lord Krishna that he would not fight with his own people, then Krishna preached the Geeta.

He also said that we have heard from saints and great personalities that Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj had immense devotion towards the saints and deep devotion towards his Guru Samarth Ramdas Swami. We did not say this to insult anyone. Our aim was only to highlight his greatness and how deeply devoted he was to the saints, but a small excerpt was taken out of context and spread.
