Did India’s path become easier due to England deducting 12 points in WTC? Know the complete equation
England has suffered a big setback in the World Test Championship 2025-27 (WTC 2025-27). The ICC has deducted 12 points from England for not bowling the entire overs within the stipulated time in the second Test against New Zealand. Not only this, a fine of 50 percent of the match fee has also been imposed on the players. With this decision of ICC, England’s path to reach the WTC final has become very difficult and its hopes have suffered a big blow. At the same time, after this action against England, the eyes of Indian fans are also now fixed on the equation of Team India reaching the final.
After England’s points were deducted, the biggest question in the minds of Indian cricket fans is whether this has made the path to the WTC final easier for Team India. Let us tell you that this has definitely brought some relief to India, but to secure the ticket to the final, Team India will have to perform strongly in its remaining matches.

How many chances does Team India still have?
The Indian team is currently at sixth position with 48.15% PCT in 9 matches with 4 wins, 4 losses and 1 draw. However, it is a matter of relief for India that it still has 9 more Test matches to play in the current cycle. This includes a very important 5-Test series at home against Australia, while 2-2 Test matches are yet to be played on the tours of Sri Lanka and New Zealand.

India’s complete equation to get the final ticket
To almost secure a place in the WTC final, any team has to achieve at least 60 to 65 percent PCT. In such a situation, India now has three big ways to get a ticket to the final:
- 7 wins: If India wins 7 out of the remaining 9 Tests, its PCT will reach 71%, which will seal its ticket to the final.
- 6 wins and 1 draw: With this equation, India will reach 64-65% PCT, which will make the claim very strong.
- 5 wins: By winning only 5 matches, India will be stuck at 57-58% PCT and will have to depend on the results of other teams.
