Diplomatic blow to Pakistan, Pakistan’s role in peace talks between US and Iran failed…

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday met Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in talks that focused on Pakistan’s regional situation and security. However, despite this high-level meeting, Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts have suffered a major setback as the second round of US-Iran peace talks to be held in the capital is now on the verge of a complete breakdown.

Let us tell you, according to the statement issued from the office of Pakistani Prime Minister, Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar were also present in this important meeting. This meeting is taking place at a time when Pakistan was trying to strengthen its role, especially regarding peace talks between the US and Iran.

During this period, Araghchi discussed regional issues with the Pakistani leadership, but a major controversy arose here. The failure of the talks between the American and Iranian delegations made Pakistan unsuccessful in its diplomatic efforts.

According to sources, Tehran rejected Pakistani efforts and directly put forward its conditions to the US administration for talks with US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and President Donald Trump’s senior advisor Jared Kushner. Iran has demanded the US Navy to lift the blockade on the Strait of Hormuz and Iranian ports, which amounts to a complete rejection of Pakistan’s mediation efforts.

This is a tough challenge for Pakistan, as it has put its capital Islamabad under security lockdown and sealed several important roads, but has still failed to bring the US and Iranian representatives together to the negotiating table.

It is noteworthy that US Vice President JD Vance and Iranian Parliament Speaker MB Ghalibaf were also involved in the first round of talks in Pakistan last month, but no concrete result emerged in that too.

This whole situation is creating a political and diplomatic crisis for Pakistan, where on one hand it is presenting itself as a mediator, while on the other hand the real decisions are in the hands of America and Iran. Despite this, Pakistan’s efforts seem to be failing, which is exposing its diplomatic weakness.
