Dish TV suffered a loss of Rs 807 crore in FY26, is the reign of DTH coming to an end in the era of OTT?

But now the changing technology and increasing popularity of digital platforms has created a big challenge for the DTH industry. The biggest example of this can be seen in the latest financial results of Dish TV, one of the major DTH companies of the country.

Dish TV has suffered a net loss of Rs 807 crore in the financial year 2025-26, which is much higher than the previous financial year. There has been a continuous decline in the company’s revenue and the biggest reason behind this is believed to be the increasing popularity of OTT platforms.

Today, a large number of viewers are turning to Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, JioHotstar and other digital streaming services. The demand for traditional DTH services is continuously declining due to on-demand content, mobile access and low-cost plans.

A big decline has also been recorded in the subscription revenue of the company. Operating income has been affected due to decline in customer base, while on the other hand, increase in expenses has put additional pressure on the company’s profits.

Industry experts believe that if DTH companies do not adopt digital transformation rapidly, their market may shrink further in the coming years. Now the biggest challenge before the companies is to retain customers and compete with OTT platforms.

Although DTH services still remain useful in rural areas and areas with limited internet connectivity, internet-based streaming platforms are increasingly becoming the center of entertainment in urban areas.

In such a situation, it is natural to ask the question whether the dish antennas installed on rooftops will become a part of history in the future, or will DTH companies make a comeback by adjusting themselves to the new era? The answer to this will become clear in the coming years.
