The way is clear for change of power in Karnataka! DK Shivkumar will take oath as CM on June 3, legislature party meeting tomorrow
DK Shivakumar will take oath on June 3: The political tension that has been going on for a long time in Karnataka now seems to be coming to an end. Senior Congress leader and Deputy CM DK Shivakumar will take oath as the 25th Chief Minister of the state on June 3. It is noteworthy that on Thursday, May 28, veteran leader Siddaramaiah had resigned from the post of Chief Minister after three years of political battle. The swearing-in ceremony will be held at the Lok Bhavan Glass House and is expected to be attended by senior Congress leaders, cabinet ministers and party workers and supporters from across Karnataka.
Let us tell you that 64 year old Shivkumar is going to get the responsibility of the post of Chief Minister after consultation with the Congress high command in Delhi. This change is being considered as part of the transition of power decided by the party leadership.
Shivakumar’s turn after Siddaramaiah
Ending months of speculation over leadership change in Karnataka, Siddaramaiah on Thursday resigned as Chief Minister, paving the way for his deputy Shivakumar to ascend to the CM’s chair. Siddaramaiah had submitted his resignation to the Special Secretary to the Governor at Lok Bhawan in the absence of the Governor, a day after which Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot accepted his resignation. On Thursday, Governor Gehlot was out of Bengaluru for personal reasons.
At present, this development is the result of a long-running power tussle within the Karnataka Congress, in which Shivakumar was being seen as a contender for the top post after the party’s victory in the 2023 assembly elections.
Siddaramaiah’s resignation on party orders
According to the ministers present in the meeting before the resignation, in the breakfast meeting held at his Bengaluru home on Thursday. Siddaramaiah informed cabinet colleagues about his decision to step down and indicated that Shivakumar would replace him as per instructions from the Congress high command. The Congress leadership had recently asked Siddaramaiah to help in the leadership transition. Along with this, he was also offered a role at the national level along with a Rajya Sabha seat. However, sources said Siddaramaiah has not yet accepted the proposed central role.
