Do not make the mistake of considering these 7 signs of periods as normal, the body is giving warning of disease.

Periods (menstruation) is a normal physiological process for women, but often under the guise of this word “normal”, serious signs of the body are ignored. Most women avoid unbearable pain, heavy bleeding or irregularities by considering them as a part of life. According to medical experts, the changing pattern of periods can be an alarm of some hidden problem growing within you. It is very important to recognize these signs in time and consult a doctor.

1. Heavy Bleeding: The real cause of fatigue and weakness

If you have to change pads every one or two hours, large blood clots are coming or periods are lasting more than 7 days, then it is called Menorrhagia. Don’t make the mistake of considering this as normal. If such a condition persists for a long time, anemia occurs in the body, which leads to problems like dizziness, shortness of breath and constant fatigue. Fibroids or hormonal imbalance can be the main reasons behind this.

2. Unbearable pain: When daily life gets affected

Mild abdominal pain or cramps are common during periods, but if the pain is so intense that you have to bed rest or find it difficult to go to work, it could be a sign of conditions like Endometriosis or Adenomyosis. Instead of relying on painkillers, the root cause should be examined by a doctor.

3. Irregular periods: risk of PCOS and thyroid

Sometimes periods arrive early, are delayed by weeks, or are missing for several months—all these point to hormonal upheaval. In today’s busy lifestyle, it can be due to PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome), thyroid problem or excessive stress. Ignoring this may increase fertility problems in future.

4. Intermenstrual bleeding: Spotting between two periods

If your periods have ended and you suddenly feel bleeding or spotting before the next cycle, it can be an alarm bell. There could be reasons behind this like infection, hormonal changes or polyps in the cervix. It is important to get it checked immediately for safety reasons.

5. Changes in discharge and signs of infection

White discharge is a natural process, but change in its colour, smell or texture is not normal. If the discharge smells foul, is yellow or green in color, or is accompanied by itching and burning, it may be a sign of a serious bacterial or yeast infection.

6. Sudden stoppage of periods (Amenorrhea)

If you are not pregnant and yet periods have suddenly stopped, then the body is going through some major changes. This may be the result of sudden weight loss, excessive exercise (Gym/Sports), nutritional deficiency or severe stress. Ignoring it can also be harmful for your bones and heart health.

7. Excessive weakness and dizziness

If weakness increases so much during periods that you are unable to do even normal household work, then it is a symptom of severe iron deficiency in the body. This weakness caused by heavy bleeding can further affect your immune system.

When to consult a doctor?

Remember, every woman’s body is different, but if you feel that your symptoms are interfering with your normal routine or there is a sudden major change in your cycle, do not delay seeing a gynecologist. Treatment done at the right time can prevent serious future surgeries and problems.
