New Delhi: There is important news for the people leaving their homes in the capital Delhi today. The motorcade will be rehearsed as part of the preparations for the 18th BRICS Summit 2026. Due to this, traffic will be controlled for some time in many major areas of New Delhi and diversion will be in force on many routes.
According to Delhi Traffic Police, the rehearsal will run from 11 am to 3 pm. During this period, changes will be made in the traffic system at about 22 diversion points and more than 35 roads. In such a situation, drivers have been advised to check their route before leaving home.
These major roads will be affected
During the rehearsal, traffic may be affected on many important roads including Sardar Patel Marg, Mother Teresa Crescent, Teen Murti Marg, Akbar Road, Tees January Marg and Rajesh Pilot Marg.
Apart from this, traffic can also be controlled on Subramaniam Bharati Marg, Mathura Road, Motilal Nehru Marg, Dr. Zakir Hussain Marg, Janpath, Ashoka Road, Barakhamba Road, Tolstoy Marg, Niti Marg and Shanti Path.
Diversion at 22 places
The traffic police has identified about 22 important places as diversion points. These include areas like Janpath-Connaught Place, Patel Chowk, Kasturba Gandhi Marg, RML Hospital Roundabout, Dhaula Kuan Flyover and Moti Bagh Flyover.
Drivers can be sent to these places via alternative routes. Therefore, people leaving for important work have been advised to take extra time.
Advice for those going to railway station and airport
Passengers going to New Delhi, Old Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station will also have to take care of traffic changes. Passengers going to the airport from Gurugram, Dwarka, South Delhi, West Delhi and North-East Delhi have also been advised to use alternative routes.
Metro will be the best option
Changes in the routes of buses are possible during VVIP movement. Whereas Delhi Metro will continue to run normally. Metro has been said to be a better option for passengers going to the airport to avoid traffic. Also, there will be a ban on roadside parking except at designated places.
BRICS Summit 2026 is to be organized from 11 to 13 September at Bharat Mandapam located at Pragati Maidan. As part of this preparation, security and traffic arrangements are being tested.
