If any notice from the Election Commission has recently reached your or any member of your family's house, then first of all do not panic at all. These days, a special campaign is being run in the capital Delhi to make the Voter List completely accurate and error-free, which has been named 'Special Intensive Revision' i.e. SIR.
Many claims are being made in social media and news regarding this entire process, but the reality is that it is only a part of a routine verification. According to the official figures of the Election Commission, notices have been sent to about 33 lakh people under this phase. The surprising thing is that in this list, along with common citizens, the country's Foreign Minister S. The names of many famous VVIPs related to the family of Jaishankar, former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, former Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, former Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai and veteran leader LK Advani are also included. Let us understand in very simple words what this whole matter is and what you should do.
Why are these notices being sent? What is 'Logical Discrepancy'?
According to Delhi's Chief Electoral Officer Ashok Kumar, when the current voter data was matched with the old records of 2002, mainly two major things emerged. Firstly, the data of about 13.79 lakh voters did not match with the old list of 2002, and secondly, minor errors or discrepancies were found in the information of about 19.33 lakh voters like spelling of name, age or address. These notices are being sent by the Commission to rectify these shortcomings and to completely correct the voter list.
Will the name be removed from the voter list as soon as the notice is received?
If you have a fear in your mind that as soon as the notice comes home, your name will be removed from the voter list forever, then be absolutely relaxed. The Election Commission has made it very clear that just receiving the notice does not mean that your vote has been deducted. According to legal rules, the name of any Indian citizen cannot be excluded from the voter list unless he is given full opportunity to express his views before the concerned officer and submit his correct documents. This entire exercise is being done only to verify your data correctly.
Rules for transparency and viewing voter list
This matter has even reached the Supreme Court alleging lack of transparency in this entire process. However, election officials say that the initial draft list released on August 31 has already been made public. If you want, you can see this draft list on the official website of the Chief Electoral Officer of Delhi. Apart from this, the list can also be checked by visiting the office of the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO/AERO) of your area or your nearest polling station.

If you have also received a notice from the Election Commission, then instead of panic follow these easy steps:
- Read the notice carefully: Check your name, Voter ID (EPIC) number, part number and the reason given in the notice carefully. It will also be clearly written in it that on which date, time and place you have to appear before the officer (ERO).
- Keep important documents ready: To improve your information, you will have to submit a self-attested copy of any one valid document. The major documents being accepted by the Commission include passport or birth certificate, 10th/Matriculation mark sheet or certificate, any document issued by a government department, bank, post office or LIC before July 1, 1987, ID card or pensioner card of government or PSU employees, and Permanent Residence Certificate. Apart from this, other authorized proofs of identity are also valid.
Further deadlines and deadlines
According to the information given by the election officials, all the sent notices and the entire process of their verification will be completed by 29 October 2026. After this, the final and updated voter list of Delhi will be published on 4th November 2026.
