Do you want to keep your liver always healthy? Adopt these 5 easy habits from today
Health Desk. Liver is one of the most important organs of the body. It works to convert food into energy, remove toxic elements from the body, help in digestion and store many essential nutrients. But irregular eating habits, excessive junk food, alcohol consumption and inactive lifestyle can have a negative impact on the liver. According to health experts, the liver can be kept healthy for a long time by adopting some easy habits.
1. Eat a balanced and nutritious diet
To keep the liver healthy, include green vegetables, seasonal fruits, whole grains, pulses and adequate protein in your diet. Limit the intake of fried, excessively sweet and processed foods. A balanced diet reduces excess pressure on the liver.
2. Do physical activity daily
Doing brisk walking, yoga, cycling or light exercise for at least 30 minutes every day keeps weight under control and can reduce the risk of problems like fatty liver. Regular exercise is considered beneficial for the entire body as well as the liver.
3. Drink enough water
Keeping the body hydrated helps in normal liver functions. By drinking adequate amount of water throughout the day, many body processes work better. However, it is not correct to assume that just drinking more water will “detox” the liver.
4. Stay away from alcohol and smoking
Excessive alcohol consumption can cause serious damage to the liver and over time can increase the risk of diseases like fatty liver, hepatitis or cirrhosis. Smoking is also harmful for overall health. Staying away from them is an important step to protect the liver.
5. Get regular health checkups done
If you have diabetes, obesity, high cholesterol or any liver problem, get yourself checked by a doctor from time to time. If needed, the condition of the liver can be detected through tests like Liver Function Test (LFT). Do not take any medicine for a long time without medical advice.
