In the wake of the release of Doc Season 2’s enthralling finaleco-showrunner Barbie Kligman has shed light on the future of Richard Miller (Scott Wolf). The Magnum P.I. producer revealed that the Doc team thoroughly enjoys working with Scott Wolf. Despite their appreciation of the Party of Five star, she added that she wants to keep his future in the series a mystery.

“We love both Richard and Scott very much, but I’ve decided to keep this as an actual cliffhanger,” Barbie Kligman said of his return while speaking with Soaps.com. “So all I’ll tell you is that we love Scott. We love working with Scott. We love Dr. Richard Miller and the way he plays with our other characters. But I’m not committing either [way]. Obviously, we always have flashbacks, so no one is ever ‘gone’ gone, but as to whether or not he’ll be back [next] season, you’re gonna have to watch and see.”

In the Doc Season 2 finale, a deadly virus outbreak wreaks havoc at the Westside Hospital. Richard ends up contracting the virus, causing his health to deteriorate at a rapid rate. Even though he eventually recovers, he admits to Amy (Molly Parker) that he is considering leaving the hospital because of his fractured relationships with his colleagues. She comforts Richard by saying that everyone deserves a second chance, thereby leaving the door open for his potential return in Doc Season 3.

Additionally, Barbie Kligman dropped a possible hint regarding Richard’s future when she explained his dynamics with Liz (Conni Miu). “It was Richard’s serum that saved Liz’s life. And so, if ever there was a reason to go fresh start, that would be it. I don’t think they’re going to braid each other’s hair on the weekends, but I do think they’re OK,” the Doc showrunner noted.
