The U.S. dollar firmed against the Vietnamese dong Monday morning as it dipped against major peers.

Vietcombank sold the greenback at VND26,400, up 0.27% over the weekend. On the black market, the currency was trading at around VND25,950.

The State Bank of Vietnam hiked its reference rate by 0.1% to VND25,586.

Globally, the yen gained momentum against the dollar, largely shrugging off weaker-than-expected Japanese GDP data as traders reined in expectations the Federal Reserve ‌could raise interest rates this year, Reuters reported.

The U.S. dollar index, which measures the greenback’s strength against a basket of six currencies, was 0.1% lower, trading near its lowest levels of the month at 99.519.

The yen was 0.2% stronger against the U.S. dollar at 158.965 yen, on track for a second straight day of modest gains against the greenback but still firmly within its trading range of the past week.

The euro was up 0.1% at $1.1582, nearing a two-month high, while the British pound was 0.2% stronger at $1.3556, approaching its firmest levels since May. Against the Chinese yuan , the U.S. dollar was flat at 6.7409 yuan in offshore trade ahead of activity data due for release later on Monday.
