The U.S. dollar slid against the Vietnamese dong on Wednesday while edging down against major currencies.
Vietcombank sold the greenback at VND26,080, down 0.08% from Tuesday. The currency fell 0.42% to around VND26,050 at unofficial exchange points.
The State Bank of Vietnam hiked its reference rate by 0.05% to VND25,646.
Globally, the dollar languished on Wednesday as traders awaited fresh signals on the timing for interest rate hikes, Reuters reported.
The dollar index, which measures the greenback against a basket of currencies, fell 0.09% to 102.09, following a 0.35% slide on Tuesday.
The euro rose 0.09% at $1.1208. The yen climbed 0.08% to 158.19 per dollar. Sterling strengthened 0.15% to $1.3272.
Attention now focuses on the release of US consumer price index data as well as speeches from Federal Reserve policymakers that could clarify the outlook for interest rates.
“The risk is the core CPI surprises to the upside because of strong consumer demand and higher costs, pushing up market pricing of an October Fed hike and the USD,” Carol Kong, a currency strategist at Commonwealth Bank of Australia, said in a note.
