Dolly Parton’s Dollywood to remain open on Wednesday after her death

Dollywood will reopen Wednesday, August 26, following the death of its founder and namesake, Dolly Parton.

The park and resort were closed Tuesday as previously scheduled. Following news of Parton’s death, Dollywood announced that it would welcome guests again the following day.

“In her spirit, Dollywood will be open Wednesday as Dolly wanted, always reminding everyone with her signature sparkle — ‘the show must go on,’” the company said in a statement. “Together, we honor her by carrying forward her message of love, perseverance and hope.”

The park’s website experienced heavy traffic after news of Parton’s death broke, becoming inaccessible for more than two hours. A message on the site said it was experiencing an “abnormally high volume” of visitors before service was restored.

Dollywood later posted its statement alongside a photo of Parton and the words “I will always love you,” referencing one of her best-known songs. Ticket purchases resumed shortly afterwards.

In a separate statement, the company mourned Parton and reflected on the legacy she built through the park.

“With heavy hearts, the Dollywood family mourns the passing of our beloved Dreamer-in-Chief, Dolly Parton,” the statement read. “Everyone at Dollywood shares the sorrow of countless people around the world touched by Dolly’s warmth, wisdom and generous spirit.”

The company added that Parton wanted Dollywood to remain “a place of joy, hope and togetherness,” where visitors could remember her through “laughter, music and shared dreams.”
