Donald Trump’s big statement, calls NATO a big problem regarding control over Greenland

US President Donald Trump has once again expressed his desire regarding Greenland and has called it a big problem for NATO. During a meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara, Trump said that control of the island should be with the US instead of Denmark. He believes that this area is very important for America’s strategic interests.

Trump also claimed in the meeting that Russian and Chinese ships are roaming around Greenland, due to which the security threat there has increased. For this reason he said that it is important for America to secure this area.

This dispute is old and had increased significantly even in the beginning of the year 2026. At that time Trump had warned Denmark and several European countries that if the Greenland deal was not reached, he would impose tariffs of up to 25% on them. However, he briefly withdrew his threat after talks with NATO chief Mark Rutte in January 2026.

The talks at that time discussed the mineral resources of the Arctic region and the inclusion of this area in the “Golden Dome” missile defense system. But in the months of February and July, Trump again reiterated that he is completely serious about acquiring this land.

On the other hand, Denmark and Greenland have rejected this entire proposal. Greenland’s Minister Jensik Nielsen has described this idea of America as just a fantasy. The Danish government has made it clear that Greenland is an autonomous region of their state and they will not give its sovereignty to any other country.
