Donald Trump Tariff U Turn : First threat of tariffs, now U – turn! Trump withdraws 50% tariff; Why suddenly hit back?
Speaking to news agency IANS, BJP MP Praveen Khandelwal said that the agitations and rallies in Delhi have caused business losses of approximately Rs 4,000 crore in the past few months. He said that the period from October to January is one of the most important business months of the year for traders.
Postponing the rally is in the interest of traders
Khandelwal added that a large number of wholesale buyers and businessmen come to Delhi from other states, but many avoid coming when traffic is disrupted due to rallies and protests. Therefore, postponing the proposed rally would be in the interest of both business and trade.
A recent loss of approximately Rs.4000 crores
Khandelwal said, “Due to the recent protests, agitations and other similar activities in Delhi, the loss is estimated to be Rs 4,000 crore. It is the festive season for traders in Delhi, when on one side there are sales for the whole year and on the other side October to January sales. In such a situation, if Rahul Gandhi holds another rally, it will definitely affect our business and the traders will suffer.”
Traders in Delhi have been in dire straits for months
Atul Bhargava, president of the New Delhi Traders Association, told IANS that traders in Delhi have been facing a difficult situation for the past several months. He said that the markets have been continuously affected since July due to various reasons and now controversy has arisen over the protest site near Jantar Mantar. Bhargava said it was natural for traders to be concerned about the program proposed by the Congress and other political parties on November 1.
No events affecting the market till Diwali
“We humbly request all political parties and protestors not to organize any events that may affect the market till Diwali. We are currently trying to regain footfall and recover from previous losses. We have already invested for the festive season and the next four months are the most important business period of the year for us.”
Meanwhile, the Chamber of Trade and Industry (CTI) has written to Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, requesting him to postpone the November 1 rally at Ramli Maidan to November 10. CTI attributed this to the peak business season during Diwali.
Impact on trade up to Rs.10,000 crore
CTI President Brijesh Goyal said the rally could disrupt business for 3-4 days and affect trade worth up to Rs 10,000 crore. There are approximately 20 major wholesale and retail markets within a radius of 5 km from the rally venue. According to a report by CTI, traders in Delhi lost an estimated Rs 3,000 crore due to the marches and road closures in October.
