Don’t travel by train now without a ticket; There has been a huge increase in the amount of fine
New Delhi : RailwayThere will be many passengers who travel without taking a ticket while traveling. But, now passengers who travel without a ticket will have to pay twice the previous fine. The Ministry of Railways has increased the minimum fine for traveling without a ticket from Rs 250 to Rs 500. An order has also been issued informing all railway zones across the country of the new rules for passengers traveling on someone else’s ticket. These rules will come into force from 1st July 2026.
The Railways has also increased fines in several other cases, providing for stiffer punishments for repeat offenders. Action will also be taken against those who harass, abuse or cause disturbance to passengers while intoxicated on the train or in the railway premises. Such persons may be disembarked from the train and may be fined or face other legal action. Railways has also tightened its action against begging in trains and station premises.
Notice issued to all departments
Railway Board Executive Director (Passenger Marketing) Shivendra Shukla has directed all divisional railways to convey information about the new rules to officers and employees. The Railway Board said that effective implementation of the rules should be ensured once they come into force. No action should be taken at any level based on old provisions.
…a good decision
According to the Ministry of Railways, these changes are aimed at curbing ticketless travel, misappropriation of tickets and other violations on railway premises, so that passengers have a safer and more organized travel experience. Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of Railways Amit Sudarshan said that this is a good decision, which will benefit the ticketed passengers and make their journey comfortable and safe.
Billions of losses to railways every year
According to railway officials, ticketless travel causes Indian Railways to lose billions of rupees in revenue every year. Therefore, to curb this trend, the government and the railway administration have decided to make the penal provisions more stringent.
Traveling on someone else’s ticket will be expensive
Railways has tightened its action against those traveling on tickets booked in someone else’s name. In such cases the ticket will be forfeited. The passenger will have to pay the full fare and an additional charge of at least Rs.500. If the passenger fails to pay, the matter may be taken to court.
