Delhi Assembly has selected Dr. Anil Goyal, MLA from Krishna Nagar, for the “Annual Best MLA Award” of the Eighth Assembly. This award is given as part of the tradition of honoring the public representatives who have done excellent work in the Legislative Assembly. On this occasion, Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta said that it has been his priority to restart the old tradition of honoring the best MLAs. He described this initiative as an important step towards strengthening the democratic system and encouraging excellence in legislative work. According to the Speaker, such awards motivate the MLAs to be more active in their field and raise the problems of the public in the House in a better way.
On this occasion, the Assembly Speaker said that the objective of this initiative is to recognize those public representatives who perform excellently in legislative work and show honesty and dedication along with tireless work in committees. He also said that this honor is not just an individual achievement, but it will promote positive competition and better work culture in the entire legislative system. According to him, such efforts will also be helpful in strengthening accountability and transparency in governance.

How was Anil Goyal selected?
Delhi Assembly this time adopted a 360-degree evaluation system to make the selection process for the “Annual Best MLA Award” more transparent and systematic. Under this system, the performance of MLAs was evaluated on the basis of a total of 100 marks, which included two major components. The first part was Legislative Record (65 marks), under which parameters like attendance of MLAs in the House, participation in debates, activeness in asking questions and submission of legislative proposals/notices were assessed on the basis of official records. The second part was the selection committee evaluation (35 marks), in which the committee assessed the overall and qualitative performance of the MLAs. In this, the effectiveness of his contribution and working style were kept in mind.
Had recorded a spectacular victory last year
According to the election information related to Krishna Nagar assembly seat, Dr. Anil Goyal had defeated Aam Aadmi Party candidate Vikas Bagga by a margin of 19,498 votes in the assembly elections held in February 2025. Gurutaran Singh Raju was made the candidate from Congress (Indian National Congress) in this election. However, the main contest in the contest was considered to be between AAP and BJP supported candidates, in which Anil Goyal ultimately won with a huge lead.
