DRDO successfully tests Pinaka long-range guided rocket, hits target at range of 60KM
New Delhi: There has been another increase in India’s defense strength. DRDO successfully flight test Pinaka Long-Range Guided Rocket at the Integrated Test Range in Chandipur, Odisha on July 8. In this test, the rocket hit its target accurately at a range of more than 60 kilometers.
Successful test conducted in Chandipur
According to DRDO, the rocket met all the required parameters during the test. After launch it followed the prescribed flight path and ultimately hit the target with pinpoint accuracy.
Officials said all instruments in the range tracked the rocket throughout its flight. The data obtained from these will now be used to further improve the guidance and navigation capability of the system.
DRDO said that the user had demanded a minimum range of 60 km and Pinaka LRGR has fulfilled it. These tests are being considered a major step towards strengthening the indigenous weapon system under ‘Self-reliant India’.
Why Pinaka LRGR is a game-changer!
This new version of Pinaka multi barrel rocket system is guided. That is, it is equipped with advanced navigation and control systems which take it accurately to the target. Compared to the earlier Pinaka rocket, LRGR has more range and accuracy is also much better.
This system will prove to be very effective in eliminating enemy bunkers, logistics centers and artillery positions from a distance. The ability to fire more rockets in less time and deliver precise strikes makes it a game-changer on the battlefield. The Army will now get more effective strike power with less resources.
LRLACM was also tested last month
DRDO had also successfully test-fired its indigenous Long-Range Land Attack Cruise Missile off the coast of Odisha last month. LRLACM is a missile completely made in India. Its main systems and components have been developed by different labs of DRDO in collaboration with Indian companies. Bengaluru’s Aeronautical Development Establishment is leading this project.
The missile achieved all the targets during the test. Senior DRDO officials, representatives of the Indian Navy and Air Force were present at the launch. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, while congratulating the scientists and industry partners, said that this success will give new heights to India’s missile program.
It is clear from these continuous tests that India is now becoming self-reliant in precision-guided weapons. Both Pinaka LRGR and LRLACM will enhance India’s long-range strike capability manifold in the times to come.
