Egypt's popular television presenter Sara Khalifa has been sentenced to death by the country's court. A total of 12 people, including Sara, have been sentenced to death for the crime of smuggling drugs and drug raw materials. Sara, 39, is known for hosting the crime and security TV show 'Mission Impossible'. He also owns a surgery clinic and event management company.
According to Egyptian media sources, Sara ran an organized crime gang within the country. Members of this gang used to import raw materials from abroad and manufacture synthetic drugs in Egypt. The presenter continued this crime cycle in Egypt for years. Recently investigating this case, the local security forces recovered 750 kg of drugs, along with drug making equipment, two secret laboratories and illegal firearms. 12 accused have been convicted in this case. After the conviction, the Cairo Criminal Court referred the case to the country's Grand Mufti. The sentence was pronounced based on his recommendation. A total of 12 people, including Sara, were sentenced to death and 9 to life imprisonment in the case. Besides, 7 people were acquitted.
Allegedly, Sara was running an organized crime gang within the country. Members of this gang used to import raw materials from abroad and manufacture synthetic drugs in Egypt.
The presenter broke down in tears in the courtroom after the death sentence was announced on Saturday. He told the judge, “My parents raised me well. They are religious people. I don't need drugs or money. I never saw drugs before I was photographed at the Anti-Narcotics Office.” Even though she claimed to be innocent, Sara's claim did not hold up. 20 witnesses testified against him in court. Besides, multiple digital proofs including messages, pictures, videos are presented.
Sara's lawyer said, there is an opportunity to appeal to the High Court against this verdict, before Sara and the rest of the convicts. For now, he is going to file an appeal against the verdict in the high court. It should be noted that Sara Khalifa was arrested from Cairo in April 2025 in a drug case.
