Easwaran completed his half-century in just 46 balls. He reached this milestone in the 14th over. On the other hand, Vaibhav was also rapidly moving towards his half-century, but lost his wicket in the 16th over on a short ball by left-arm fast bowler CV Milind.

However, by then both the batsmen had decided the course of the match. Vaibhav and Easwaran added 100 runs in the first 15 overs. The special thing was that on the pitch where the batsmen were expected to play cautiously in the first hour, both of them showed aggressive style.

Earlier, East Zone captain Ishan Kishan had won the toss and decided to bat first. He was hopeful that the pitch would help the fast bowlers in the initial hour. There were signs of seam and bounce in Mohammed Siraj’s first over, but the East Zone batsmen gradually blunted the edge of South’s bowling attack.

Vaibhav scored a lot of runs on the off side, while Easwaran targeted the leg side. Troubled by the batting of both, Tilak had to hit five boundary riders from the 8th over itself. This type of field setup is rarely seen in red-ball cricket.

However, South Zone sent both the batsmen to the pavilion in the first session. Vaibhav was out on a short ball, while Easwaran was run out. Easwaran lost his wicket due to a misunderstanding with batsman S Mohan on the pitch. At the end of the first session, East Zone’s score was 133 runs for two wickets.
