Navratri Recipe: People fasting during Navratri often look for something new and tasty to eat in their fruit diet. If you want to make something spicy other than the options like sago, fruits and boiled potatoes, then water chestnut flour cheela can be a good option. Prepared with boiled potatoes and spices, this cheela can be made crispy from outside and soft from inside. It can be easily prepared at home and included in the fasting breakfast.
Ingredients for making water chestnut flour cheela
- Water chestnut flour – 1 cup
- Boiled potatoes – 2 medium sized
- Green chillies – 2 to 3, finely chopped
- Coriander – finely chopped
- Rock salt – as per taste
- Black pepper powder – half teaspoon
- Cumin – half teaspoon
- Lemon juice – 1 tsp
- Ghee or peanut oil – for baking cheela
- Water – as per requirement
First prepare the chilli solution
Take water chestnut flour in a big vessel, peel boiled potatoes and mash them well. Now add rock salt, black pepper powder, cumin, finely chopped green chilli and green coriander. After this add lemon juice and mix all the ingredients well.
Now prepare the solution by adding water little by little to the mixture. Keep in mind that the solution should neither be too thick nor too thin. Keep it in such a way that it can be spread easily on the pan and the cheela does not break while turning.
Bake cheela on the pan like this
First of all, heat a non-stick or iron pan on medium flame. Apply some ghee or peanut oil on the pan. Now pour a tablespoon of the prepared batter in the center of the pan and spread it in a round shape with light hands. Do not make the cheela too thin, so that it can be turned easily.
Now apply some ghee or oil on the sides and top of the cheela. Bake it on medium flame until the bottom surface becomes golden and crisp. After this, carefully turn it over and cook well from the other side also. When it becomes golden from both the sides, take out the cheela in a plate. Similarly, prepare cheela from the remaining batter also.
Serve with green chutney or curd
Hot water chestnut flour cheela can be served with green coriander-mint chutney or curd. The taste of potatoes and spices makes it different from the usual fruit options. It can be prepared for morning breakfast or for light evening hunger. Choose the ingredients as per the rules of the fast and use only fast-friendly ingredients in chutney or curd.
