Counting of votes for Delhi University Students Union Elections 2026 continues on Saturday amid tight security arrangements. In the initial trends, ABVP candidates have taken lead on key posts, although changes are being seen in the figures in different rounds. This time 40.46 percent voting was recorded in DU.
Tezzbuzz Desk- Counting of votes started on Saturday morning after the voting for Delhi University Students Union i.e. DUSU elections 2026 ended on Friday. Candidates are contesting for the posts of President, Vice President, Secretary and Joint Secretary in the elections. Extensive security arrangements have been made in the North Campus for the counting of votes.
Initial trends showed a tough contest for the post of President between ABVP's Yash Dabas and NSUI's Vijay Shankar Meena. In the first round, Yash Dabas was leading with 1,305 votes, while Vijay Shankar Meena got 1,191 votes. Independent candidate for the post of Vice President, Dipanshu Shaukeen was ahead in the initial phase. He got 1,391 votes, while ABVP's Ishu Maurya got 865 votes and NSUI's Veer Chatrath got 242 votes.
For the post of secretary, ABVP's Riya Chhawadi secured 909 votes in the initial round, while NSUI's Namrata Chaudhary got 450 votes. For the post of Joint Secretary, ABVP's Lakshya Raj Singh got 938 votes, while NSUI's Gopal Chaudhary got 698 votes and Independent Vishesh Yadav got 996 votes.
In this election, polling stations were set up in 52 colleges and departments of Delhi University. Out of a total of over 1.51 lakh student voters, 40.46 per cent exercised their franchise. This voting percentage was more than last year's 39.45 percent.
During the counting of votes, tight security arrangements have been made in and around the strong room. Police force along with other security agencies have been deployed and surveillance has been increased on the campus. The administration is also taking special precautions to avoid any untoward situation during the elections.
A total of 20 candidates are in the fray for four key posts in the DUSU elections. Seven candidates are contesting for the post of President, five for Vice President and four each for the post of Secretary and Joint Secretary. ABVP and NSUI have fielded candidates on all four key posts, while the AISA-SFI alliance is also in the fray.
At the same time, Delhi High Court has banned victory processions, drums and other celebrations after the results of DUSU elections. The court has also sought answers from the concerned parties regarding violation of rules during the election campaign. In such a situation, after the declaration of results, no procession or large scale victory ceremony can be organized in the campus.
The picture will become more clear as the counting of votes progresses. As per the currently available trends, there is a contest between ABVP and NSUI on many posts and only after the declaration of the final result, it will be clear who won the four central posts of DUSU.
