Warner Bros. has shifted its upcoming animated Batman project to a later slot, giving the studio more room to position the film for a specific audience. The move affects one of DC’s more unusual ventures, a movie built around two characters who once stood at the Dark Knight’s side.
Dynamic Duo gets a new September 2028 release date
DC Studios has pushed Dynamic Duo from June 30, 2028, to September 22, 2028. The animated film focuses on Dick Grayson and Jason Todd, the two Robins who each fought crime alongside Batman. Warner Bros. calls late September an ideal back-to-school window for animation. The studio expects the movie to pull the teen and college crowd that flocked to the Spider-Verse films.
The new date also gives The Batman: Part II extra room and keeps Dynamic Duo away from Paramount’s Call of Duty movie, since both will sit under the same corporate roof by then. However, this Batman spin-off operates on its own track. Matt Reeves produces through 6th & Idaho, yet the story happens outside his Robert Pattinson films and outside the main DC Universe canon that James Gunn and Peter Safran now oversee.
The project mixes puppetry with animation, drawing on miniatures, models, animatronics, and computer-generated imagery. Swaybox, a New Orleans studio founded by Arthur Mintz and Theresa Andersson, handles the animation, and Mintz directs. Matthew Aldrich wrote the script, with Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber later brought in to rewrite it.
Batman’s voice remains uncast. One report claims Chris Pine has an offer, but nothing is locked, and negotiations have not started. DC continues to weigh other actors for the part. Pine built his career on Star Trek and Wonder Woman, and he has done voice work before.
All in all, DC keeps expanding its Batman slate. The Batman: Part II lands on February 18, 2028. Gunn’s universe is developing The Brave and the Bold. A Clayface horror film opens next month. An animated Knightfall trilogy is in progress, and an Absolute Batman adaptation is also moving forward. Now, Dynamic Duo will be released on September 22, 2028.
