Mild tremors felt in Kurung Kume, people in panic
Geological disturbance has once again been recorded in the north-eastern state of Arunachal Pradesh. Earthquake tremors were felt in Kurung Kumey district of the state on Friday. According to the report of the National Center for Seismology (NCS), the intensity of this earthquake has been recorded at 2.9 on the Richter scale. It is a matter of relief that the tremors were of low intensity, due to which no loss of life or damage to property was reported in the area.
NCS released detailed data confirming the incident on its official social media handle. Although a major accident was averted due to reduced intensity, local people came out of their homes in panic.
Upper Siang was shaken on 6th August also
Earlier on August 6 also, the earth trembled in Upper Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh. At that time the intensity was measured at 3.5 on the Richter scale. These tremors occurring repeatedly at short intervals in the state have increased the concern of geologists and earthquake experts.
In fact, the entire landmass of North-Eastern India is considered extremely sensitive in terms of tectonic activities. States like Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya fall under the highly sensitive seismicity zone (Seismic Zone V). Due to the geological structure, there is a constant state of pressure and tension between the Indian Plate and the Eurasian Plate, due to which tremors are felt in the process of energy release.
Strong earthquake of 5.1 magnitude in neighboring country China
Amidst the mild movement in Arunachal Pradesh, India, a strong earthquake was also recorded in the neighboring country China. According to China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC), a 5.1 magnitude earthquake struck Longchang city in China's southwestern Sichuan province at 1:13 pm. The center of this geological shock was at a depth of 13 kilometers from the ground.
Following the recent natural disaster in Nepal and repeated tremors in the Sichuan region of China, surveillance has been increased in the entire Himalayan belt. Experts are continuously studying these movements being recorded on the Richter scale so that possible risks can be assessed in advance.
