Eetha Movie: Narayangaonkar family’s displeasure over Shraddha Kapoor’s ‘Eetha’ movie! ‘These’ demands are recommended

Actress Shraddha Kapoor in the lead role and based on the life journey of tamasha empress Withabai Narayangaonkar, ‘Eetha’ has been mired in controversy even before its release. After the release of the teaser of this movie recently, it received a good response from the audience. However, the family members of Withabai Narayangaonkar have raised some important demands before the makers, objecting to some scenes along with the name of the film. If these demands are not heeded till July 3, he has also warned to take legal route.

Vithabai Narayangaonkar’s son Kailas Narayangaonkar and grandson Mohit Narayangaonkar clarified their position in an interview. According to him, he is happy and proud that a film is being made on Vithabai’s life. However, there was no communication with the family before or during the making of the film. Due to this, many important events and realities of Vithabai’s life were missed in the film more effectively, he said. He has also objected to some scenes in the teaser. Kailas Narayangaonkar said that it was shown that the baby was born behind the stage and it was necessary to get confirmation from the family about such sensitive events. While he is happy that Vithabai’s struggle is reaching the big screen, it is equally important that it is portrayed in a realistic manner, he said.

The family has also given a clear stand regarding the title of the film. He said that although ‘Vitha’ is pronounced as ‘Eetha’ in rural areas, it is necessary to mention the full name of Vithabai for the new generation to understand the true identity of Vithabai. They demand that the name of the film should be changed to ‘Vitha’ or the full name should be given as ‘Vithabai Narayangaonkar’ in the subtitle. Apart from this, he has also demanded that the film should be shown to the family members before its release. If any factual errors or objectionable elements are found in the film, they can be corrected in time, he said.

Mohit Narayangaonkar said that all these demands have been conveyed to the makers of the film through e-mail. He also claimed to have heard many information from a book published based on the life of Withabai Narayangaonkar. He said that if a film is made based on that book, there is a possibility of misrepresenting history. He raised another point and said that the original name of Tamasha Fada with which Vithabai was associated was ‘Bhau Bapu Narayangaonkar’. However, he is of the opinion that the incomplete mention of him in the film may affect the original history.

Informing that no response has been received from the makers yet, Mohit Narayangaonkar warned of taking legal action if no contact is received by July 2-3. He also said that discussions are going on with legal experts in this regard. “If the film is good, we will welcome it. However, if the history of Vithabai Narayangaonkar is wrongly or offensively portrayed, we will not remain silent,” he asserted.
