Cairo. After the recent military tension between America and Iran, efforts have now intensified to bring the two countries back to the negotiating table. According to regional officials, mediator countries have begun initiatives to reduce differences between the two sides and restore a temporary ceasefire arrangement.
US President Donald Trump said on Monday that Iran has offered to negotiate. He said that the talks between the two countries are progressing in a good direction and it is hoped that some result can be reached. However, Iran has said that at present no direct talks are taking place between the two countries.
Qatar and Pakistan are mediating
Mediators led by Qatar and Pakistan are trying to resolve ongoing differences between the US and Iran, according to regional officials familiar with the matter. Their aim is to re-implement the temporary ceasefire arrangement that broke after the recent conflict. However, due to the activities of armed groups active in the area, tension has not completely ended yet.
Claim of attack on Saudi Arabia’s oil facilities
Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia has claimed that it has foiled drone attacks targeting oil refineries by Iran-backed militias. At the same time, Yemen’s Houthi rebels have also claimed to attack Saudi Arabia’s oil installations. However, it is not yet clear whether the Houthi rebels’ claim is related to the same attack or some other action. Despite efforts to reduce tension between America and Iran, the world continues to keep an eye on the situation in West Asia.
