Bokaro: Eight shops were gutted in a fire at a market in Jharkhand’s Bokaro district on Sunday, officials said. No casualties were reported in the blaze at the Sector-6 market that broke out around 6.30 am, they said.

Three fire tenders brought the blaze under control within an hour, they added. “Around eight shops were completely destroyed in the blaze. Prima facie, it appears the incident happened due to a short circuit, as it has come to light that some shops had illegally tampered with their electricity connections,” Bokaro Sadar SDPO Rajeev Ranjan told PTI. The shops were operating illegally on encroached land, he said. However, the exact cause of the fire will be established only after a detailed investigation, he added.
