Electricity Bill: Electricity bill will be less even in summer. Government told the right way to operate AC, set it

News India Live, Digital Desk: As soon as the mercury crossed 40 degrees in North India, the use of air conditioners (AC) in homes has increased. But the thing that scares the most along with the coolness of AC is the huge electricity bill at the end of the month. To address this concern of the common man, the Government and the Ministry of Power have shared a special guideline. The government claims that if you set your AC at a prescribed temperature, you will not only save the environment but can also reduce your electricity bill by 20 to 25 percent. 24 degrees is the ‘magic number’ According to the government and the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), a temperature of 24 degrees Celsius is considered to be the most ideal temperature for running an AC. Experts say that the normal temperature of the human body is around 36-37 degrees, so a temperature of 24 degrees is very comfortable for our body. Scientifically, if you increase the temperature of AC by one degree (say 19 or 24 instead of 18), about 6% power is saved. Most people run the AC at 16 or 18 degrees in order to cool the room quickly, which increases the load on the compressor and doubles the electricity consumption. Mathematics of Compressor and Electricity Consumption When you set the AC to 18 degrees, the compressor continues to run at full capacity until the room temperature reaches 18 degrees. In the scorching heat, it is difficult to cool the room so much that the compressor does not stop for hours. At the same time, by setting it at 24 degrees, the compressor cuts off quickly and consumes less electricity while maintaining the coolness of the room. The government has now made 24 degrees mandatory as the default setting for all AC manufacturers. Other government tips to reduce bills: Use with fan: If you run the ceiling fan on low speed while running the AC, then the cold air spreads quickly throughout the room. This will make you feel as cold as 20 degrees even at 24 degrees.Doors and Windows: Make sure the room is completely closed. Even the slightest outside air increases the work of the compressor. Regular servicing: Dirty filters and old gas increase power consumption by up to 30%. Be sure to get servicing done at the beginning of every season. Change old AC: If your AC is more than 10 years old, it consumes much more electricity than a new ‘inverter AC’ or a 5-star rated AC. The Ministry of Energy believes that if every citizen of the country starts running their AC at 24 degrees, then crores of units of electricity can be saved. This will reduce pressure on the power grid and also reduce carbon emissions. So stay cool and smart this summer and hit the 24 degree button on your remote.
