Elon Musk expressed concern over the declining birth rate in India – Read
SpaceX CEO Elon Musk said on Saturday that the birth rate in India has declined and has fallen below replacement level. Replacement is the level at which the population neither increases nor decreases if it remains constant.
India’s birth rate has fallen below replacement level, Musk posted on Twitter. Among the more educated, India’s birth rate had fallen below replacement level several years earlier.
Musk cited data from media outlet AF Post which said India’s fertility rate has fallen below replacement for the first time in the country’s history. The total fertility rate (TFR) has declined from 2.3 to 1.9 in just one decade.
Delhi’s fertility rate is 1.2, which is lower than Finland. AF Post cited a June 4 article in The Economist titled ‘India’s population may soon start declining’.
