Engineer Rashid gets one week interim bail from Delhi High Court, relief to meet his ailing father
Engineer Rashid, MP from Baramulla, Jammu and Kashmir, has got a big relief from the Delhi High Court. The court has granted him a week’s interim bail, granted on humanitarian grounds, so that he can meet his ailing father and take care of him. Engineer Rashid faces serious charges related to the terror funding case and is lodged in Tihar jail since 2019. The court said in its order that during this period he can stay with his father in the hospital or at home, but many strict conditions will also be imposed. The court clarified that this relief is only temporary and will have no impact on the hearing of the case.
Earlier, Engineer Rashid had filed a bail petition in the lower court, which was rejected. After this he approached the Delhi High Court and sought permission to meet his father citing his serious health condition. Considering his plea, the High Court approved interim bail with some strict conditions. According to the order, Rashid will be able to stay with his father in the hospital or at home during this period, but it will be mandatory for him to follow the conditions set by the court.
On what conditions was the bail granted?
While granting bail, the court has also set many strict conditions. According to the order, Engineer Rashid will have to deposit a personal bond of Rs 1 lakh and a surety bond of the same amount. Two police officers will be present with him at all times. The court has clarified that during this period, they will stay only at the place where their father is present, whether it is home or hospital. They will not be allowed to go out. Apart from this, they will use the same mobile number, which will always be active and under surveillance. The order also states that they will not contact or try to influence any witness. Only close family members will be allowed to meet, there will be a ban on meeting anyone else. The monitoring and expenses of this entire system will be borne by the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
Who is Engineer Rashid?
Engineer Rashid is among the well-known leaders of Kashmir and had won the 2024 Lok Sabha elections as an independent candidate from Baramulla seat. Before coming into politics, he was working as an engineer in the government department. He was arrested under UAPA in the 2017 terror funding case and is lodged in Delhi’s Tihar Jail since 2019. Serious allegations have been made against him, although Rashid has continuously denied these allegations. The court made it clear in its order that he would be allowed to stay with his father in the hospital or at home during this period, but many strict conditions would also be applicable.
