At present David Harker’s age is 51 years. This claim of Harker also seems tenable because only a few remains of Julie’s body have been recovered after the murder. Harker confessed to his friends and psychiatrists that after inviting Julie Patterson to his home and killing her, he fried part of her thigh and ate it with pasta and cheese.

Harker struggling with mental illness

According to psychiatrists, Harker is suffering from ‘diminished mental responsibility’. He is serving life imprisonment after confessing to murder. When he was sentenced in 1999, he was 24 years old and currently he is 51 years old. Psychiatrists argue that David Harker had a severe psychiatric disorder when he murdered Julie Patterson. In such a situation, in the eyes of the law, he was not guilty of murder at that time.

Befriended the mother of four children, then killed her

It is alleged that former Darlington officer David Davis had recovered the partial body of Julie Patterson, mother of four children, in 1998. It was alleged that a cannibal had called him to his flat and murdered him and ate his legs. Rape with murdered body

After this, Harker strangled Julie Patterson to death and raped her body. Then one of Julie Patterson’s legs was cut off and her thigh was cooked with pasta, garlic and cheese and eaten. According to the statement, after doing all this, Harker dragged Patterson’s body to the basement of his flat block.

How was Harker caught?

Harker was caught after he bragged to his friends that he had ‘killed a girl named Julie’, but never gave any information about the rest of Miss Patterson’s body. The police officers involved in the investigation had searched 20,000 tonnes of waste deposited at Coxhoe Tip (garbage dumping site) in County Durham in the year 1998. Along with this, rivers, ponds and sewers were also searched, but they did not get any success. Harker pleaded guilty to culpable homicide on the grounds of ‘diminished responsibility’. Then in February 1999 he was sentenced to life imprisonment at Teesside Crown Court.
