England selected 17-member team for T20 series against India, Harry Brook captain, new face James Coles included.

New Delhi . The England cricket team has been officially announced for the five-match T20 series between India and England. This series will start from July 1, the first match of which will be played at Chester le Street. The final match of the series will be held on July 11 in Southampton. After this, an ODI series will also be played between the two teams.

This time the command of England will be in the hands of Harry Brook. The selectors have expressed confidence in him in the limited overs format and have retained the responsibility of captaincy. Brook had not been able to captain the Test team before, but he will lead the team in the T20 format.

The biggest discussion in this squad is about the entry of 22-year-old uncapped all-rounder James Coles. This young player from Sussex has made a place in the team on the basis of his excellent performance in domestic cricket. Recently, he played an excellent inning of 224 not out against Glamorgan in the County Championship, which is the highest score of his first class career. He impressed the selectors with his all-round performance in the T20 Blast also.

Some major changes have also been seen in team selection. Ben Duckett has not been included in this T20 squad, while Jordan Cox, Sonny Baker and Saqib Mahmood have returned. With players like Braydon Carse and Jamie Overton unavailable for selection due to injuries, the selectors have chosen a relatively larger 17-man squad.

  • England selector Marcus North said that James Coles has earned this opportunity on the basis of his performance. He also said that with the T20 series against India starting immediately after the Test series against New Zealand, it was necessary to have additional options in the team.

This T20 series between India and England is expected to be very exciting, especially when India’s young batting lineup and England’s new strategy will come face to face. After this, ODI series will also be played, which is considered an important part of the preparation for the upcoming ICC tournaments for both the teams.
