Environment protection, tree plantation and Ganga cleanliness works reviewed

A meeting of District Tree Plantation Committee, District Environment Committee and District Ganga Committee was organized in the Collectorate Auditorium on Monday under the chairmanship of Chief Development Officer Jagriti Awasthi. In the meeting, a detailed review was done on various points related to environmental protection, tree plantation, pollution control and protection of Ganga and tributary rivers in the district. During the meeting, instructions were given to all the departments to complete the work in a time bound manner as per the tree plantation target set by the government.

Also, special emphasis was laid on ensuring the safety and survival of the plants to be planted. While reviewing the tree plantation works done in previous years, the concerned departments were directed to carry out regular inspection and monitoring. During the review of the District Environment Committee, special emphasis was laid on road dust control, proper disposal of domestic and commercial wastes, stopping illegal dumping, plastic and construction waste management and compliance with pollution control standards. The Chief Development Officer directed all the executive officers to ensure complete ban on single use plastic in their respective areas and to take effective action by running a special campaign.

Along with this, instructions were also given to conduct extensive public awareness programs to make the general public aware. Timely uploading of departmental information on GDPMS portal, cleanliness and public awareness activities conducted by Village Ganga Committees were also reviewed in the meeting. Apart from this, necessary guidelines were provided while discussing the progress of conservation and revitalization works of drinking water sources, ponds and wetlands.

In the meeting of the District Ganga Committee, the progress of revitalization of Ganga and its tributaries, taping of drains, screening and bio-remediation works was reviewed. The concerned officials were instructed to maintain the cleanliness of the river banks and ensure effective and continuous action for pollution control. Officials from concerned departments were present in the meeting.
