Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed on Saturday that the member countries of the European Union have issued negative travel advisories for Assam. (Negative Travel Advisory) Has been modified and removed. Describing it as ‘encouraging news’ for Assam, he said that this step is a sign of increasing confidence and positive change in the state.

CM Sarma said that this decision taken after the recent visit of EU diplomats to Assam is an important step towards better relations between India-Assam and the European Union. He said that lifting of travel advisory will boost tourism, trade and people-to-people contacts in Assam. The Chief Minister also thanked European Union Ambassador to India Hervé Delphin for his cooperation in this process.

There is still a ban on travel to which three districts?

However, travel restrictions will still continue for three districts of Assam, Charaideo, Tinsukia and Sivasagar. Armed Forces (Special Powers Act) (AFSPA) is still in force in these districts, due to which the EU has not excluded these areas from the advisory. The Chief Minister said that the EU Ambassador informed the Chief Secretary of the state that the restrictions have been lifted for the rest of Assam from Friday. Now citizens of all 27 member countries of the European Union can travel to Assam.

CM Sarma said that America and Canada have not yet changed their travel advisory for Assam. The state government is discussing this issue with both the countries. Earlier, Australia and Japan have also removed similar travel advisory issued for Assam. According to the Chief Minister, this development reflects the security situation of Assam and its increasing acceptance at the international level.
