Kalpsar Project of Gujarat
We are talking about an ambitious Kalpsar project. It will be the world's largest coastal freshwater reservoir, to be constructed by the Gujarat government in the Gulf of Khambhat. The project will be constructed by damming a section of the sea, blocking the flow of approximately 7,800 million cubic meters (MCM) of fresh water into the sea. This will provide water supply to the drought-prone Saurashtra region of Gujarat. It will also do an important job of quenching the thirst of many such drought-stricken areas across the country.
The big lake is ready to be built
A large freshwater coastal reservoir is to be constructed by constructing a dam or embankment about 60 to 64 kilometers long in the Gulf of Khambhat. It will collect water flowing from rivers like Sabarmati, Mahi, Dhadhar and Narmada. This would make one of the largest artificial freshwater lakes in the world, spread over an area of about 1,600 to 2,000 square kilometers.
Who is working on this project?
The Kalpsar project is being developed by the Gujarat government. In which technical assistance is being received from the Central Government and the Netherlands. A consultancy company from the Netherlands is providing framework and technical support for the project.
How much will it cost?

What are the financial benefits of the project?
