Ex-player rates Ravi Shastri’s India squad for 2027 World Cup; questions Shami, Bhuvneshwar’s selection

Ravi Shastri, the former India captain and coach, recently picked his Men in Blue squad for the 2027 ODI World Cup. The 64-year-old has named Mohammed Shami and Bhuvneshwar Kumar in his squad. Both veteran seamers aren’t part of the national team, and many voices want the duo to make a comeback to the team.

The team also includes veteran Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli as well as young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal. Former Indian batter Aakash Chopra gave his view on India’s squad while speaking on his Instagram handle. “He has picked Jaiswal, avery interesting choice and has given many options.”

The 48-year-old also said, “With KL Rahul, he has also picked Rishabh Pant. This is the slight difference he made. Yashasvi has two ODI tons, but will he make it to the team? That is a tough question. Pant hasn’t been treated that well in the ODI format. He was dropped from the team without getting many chances. Currently, Ishan Kishan is in high demand.”

The former opening batter also added, “Shastri has also included Axar and Jadeja with Hardik Pandya. His team doesn’t have Nitish Reddy or Washington Sundar, which means he is going in with two spinners who are experienced and also proper, all-rounders, which makes sense.”

“Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Siraj, and Jasprit Bumrah are automatic choices, but Shami and Kumar are very interesting names. These two bowlers along with Pant and Jaiswal form a very interesting team, and I will want to rate it 8/10. Feel this team will not be selected till Shastri becomes a selector himself. I also feel a left-arm seamer is missing from the side.”

Ravi Shastri’s team doesn’t include the likes of Arshdeep Singh, Gurnoor Brar, or Prince Yadav, who have made their presence felt in International cricket recently. The 64-year-old has named a good squad mixed with youth and experience for the global tournament.
