Tehran. According to information shared by Iran’s Tasnim News Agency, two explosions were heard on Qeshm Island in southern Iran’s Hormozgan Province on Thursday night. The agency reported that the explosions were caused by Iranian armed forces engaging hostile targets at the entrance to the Strait of Hormuz. Citing sources, Tasnim reported that the explosions were heard around 21:40 local time.
It also quoted Ahmad Nafisi, Hormozgan’s deputy governor for political, security, and social affairs, as saying that no attacks or incidents were reported on Qeshm Island and the provincial capital, Bandar Abbas. He added that relevant authorities were conducting necessary investigations to determine the cause of the explosions. Saudi Arabia’s Al Hadath News Channel and Al Arabiya News Channel, citing high-ranking sources, reported on Thursday that Iran and Oman had agreed on a framework agreement to reopen the Strait of Hormuz for 60 days.
According to the report, sources said the agreement still needs to be approved by Iran’s Supreme National Security Council and could be announced within days. Its purpose is to resume navigation through the waterway. Ships entering the Strait will use the Iranian route, while those exiting will use the Omani route. Sources stated that no transit fees or service charges will be imposed, and parties in the region can participate in mine removal and technical processes.
Sources stated that once the agreement is approved, the US and Iran will return to their Peace Memorandum of Understanding and activate Paragraph 5, which deals with the reopening of commercial shipping and safe navigation through the Strait. According to media reports, indirect contact has been maintained between Iran and the US through mediators, and these negotiations have reached the final stages.
