Famous Pandwani singer and Padma Vibhushan Tijan Bai’s health deteriorated, admitted to MICU.

New Delhi. Padma Vibhushan awardee and famous Pandwani singer Teejan Bai is fighting for her life in the Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) of AIIMS Raipur. The 69-year-old folk singer, considered one of the greatest singers of Pandwani, was admitted late on Wednesday night after her health suddenly deteriorated. Doctors have described his condition as serious.

According to medical updates, Teejan Bai is suffering from severe lung infection, bloodstream infection (sepsis) and severe kidney injury. Sources said his blood pressure has been consistently low, and persistent infections remain a serious challenge. A multidisciplinary team of specialists, including critical care experts, pulmonologists and hematologists, are closely monitoring him round the clock and providing intensive treatment. Teejan Bai was brought to the hospital in critical condition. After initial investigation, he was immediately shifted to MICU. Although doctors have managed to stabilize him to some extent, they are still cautious as the danger has not completely subsided.




  • Born in 1956 in Ganiari village near Bhilai in Chhattisgarh, Teejan Bai came from an ordinary family and became a famous artist at the international level. He popularized Pandwani, a traditional folk art form of Chhattisgarh in which stories from the Mahabharata are narrated through powerful songs and drama. His unique style of being on stage, full of deep emotions and enthusiasm, took this lesser-known folk tradition to the global stage.

    In her illustrious career, Teejan Bai has received some of India’s highest civilian honours, including the Padma Shri in 1988, the Padma Bhushan in 2003 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2019. He also received the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1995 and many other major honors for his immense contribution to Indian folk culture.

    The news of his ill health has created a wave of concern in the entire Chhattisgarh and the larger cultural community. Fans, artists and leaders have expressed hope for his speedy recovery.
