Why was Satluj removed from Zee5?
Previously titled Panjab ’95, the Diljit Dosanjh-starrer faced a long battle with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The film did not receive certification after the makers declined to comply with the requested cuts, preventing its planned theatrical release.
Satluj eventually appeared on Zee5 on July 3 but disappeared from the platform by July 5. An I&B Ministry official later told ANI that the film lacked the required certification for a theatrical release.
Fans tried to raise money
Following the Satluj removed from Zee5 controversy, Trehan said supporters reached out through calls, Instagram messages and social media posts. Many wanted to support the filmmaker, the Khalra family and Diljit Dosanjh.

Trehan revealed that the team learned about gullaks, or donation boxes, being placed in gurdwaras where well-wishers were trying to raise money for the producers. He said the effort was taking place both in India and overseas.
Honey Trehan rejects financial support
Despite the gesture, Trehan said the filmmakers would not accept money, gifts or donations. He thanked supporters and said their love and encouragement were more valuable than financial assistance.
The director also said he and producers RSVP have accepted that Satluj will have a legacy despite the financial losses. He described the film as an attempt to honour Khalra’s memory, human rights and the people who disappeared during a period of darkness.
After the film was Satluj removed from Zee5, viewers also reportedly downloaded it illegally and organised public screenings so that more people could watch the film.
Trehan has now clarified that any money collected in the name of Satluj or its service has no connection with the film’s team. He urged supporters to stand together through kindness, courage and solidarity.
