Farmers’ worries increase due to slow pace of monsoon in Jharkhand, crisis looms over Kharif crop

Ranchi: Due to weak monsoon this year in Jharkhand, the problems of farmers are increasing. Let us tell you that due to much less rainfall than normal in the month of June, preparations for Kharif crop are being affected in many districts. According to the information, due to lack of sufficient moisture in the fields, farmers have lagged behind in preparing paddy nurseries and starting the transplantation process.

60 percent less rainfall recorded

According to Agriculture Department officials, so far the state has recorded about 60 percent less rainfall than the normal rainfall. If the rain situation does not improve in the coming days, it may have a direct impact on paddy production. Most of the farmers of the state are dependent on paddy cultivation, hence the lack of rain is increasing their worries.

Field work stopped due to rain

Bhushan Singh, a farmer of Garhwa district, said that usually the paddy nurseries and fields are ready by this time, but this time due to lack of rain, farming work has not started. Meanwhile, farmer Manoranjan Kishan of Latehar district says that the preparation of the fields is incomplete and even seeds have not been available to the farmers on time.

When did monsoon reach Jharkhand

According to the India Meteorological Department, the south-west monsoon reached Jharkhand on June 12, but later its pace slowed down. Meteorologists estimate that monsoon may become active again after June 26 and there is a possibility of good rain in the first week of July. This is expected to provide some relief to the farmers.

Which districts have the highest rainfall deficit?

Rainfall figures also show the seriousness of the situation. Let us tell you that the maximum rainfall deficiency has been recorded in Garhwa and Sahibganj districts. Most of the districts of the state have received 40 to 90 percent less rainfall than normal. Whereas till June 23, there should have been an average rainfall of 122.6 mm, only 49.5 mm of rainfall was recorded.

In view of the situation, agricultural experts are advising farmers to adopt cultivation of low water crops like maize, paddy and pulses. The state government has also started preparations to provide relief to farmers and promote alternative agricultural activities. Now it remains to be seen whether the pace of monsoon increases in the state in the coming days or the same situation continues.
